There was a tiny chirpy bird Ninni. Her color was a mix of green and brown and her tail was shiny blue. She looked adorable. But her voice was the best. When she talked to her mom it was as if she was singing. Everybody loved her. Her daddy loved her very much and she was singing the whole day “I love my mom ” “I love my dad”.
One day she asked her mom if she could go out. Mommy looked around. It was sunny and a bit windy. She said,”Go with your friend Munni and come back before it is dark.” Ninni ran to her friend and both flew above the green trees. It was a beautiful day. The sun was not very hot and the wind was playing with them. Then came a narrow stream full of fresh water and small fish. Ninni and Munni were excited to see the fish. They talked to them and sang to them. The fish were coming out of water for a while and again going under the water. In the sunlight their skin was shimmering like stars. It was fun. They were now hungry so they went inside a garden and ate so much that their small belly bloated. They were walking like their fat aunts.
Suddenly a small black cloud came from nowhere. It became bigger and bigger and bigger and covered the whole sky. It became dark and the wind too was getting stronger. Ninni was always very scared of dark. When she saw pitch darkness everywhere she began to cry. They could not see anything and the strong wind took Munni somewhere. She cried for her but no reply came.Ninni had lost her way and she was weeping.
She somehow kept flying in the dark and felt the tender touch of leaves. A big tree that she could not see in the dark was calling her by her name. She was surprised “who knows my name here”. The tree very lovingly said he knows her parents too and everybody else in this forest. But what was she doing in this storm. She should not have been out in the dark. Ninni told him everything. Tree said there is a small hole in one of his branch she should go there and wait for the storm to go away. Ninni was calm and warm inside the hole but she was feeling hungry and then felt that a small fruit her size came into the hole as if somebody had reached there and kept it for her. She was wondering “Does the tree read the mind and send me a fruit? Oh he is like my parents who know whatever I need.” She was thinking about her mom and dad and tears came into her eyes. Gradually she began to see things around her as the dark clouds were flying towards south. She was in the care of a huge tree and many other birds were there too. They were saying ‘thank you’ to their host but the tree was smiling graciously but signaled Ninni to wait. When everyone had left, with a little anger on his face he asked Ninni why did she left the house in this bad weather. Ninni told him all and apologetically said she would never ever come this far all alone.
The tree smiled and patted her soft soft feathers. He showed her the way.
Her home was nearby. She saw her worried parents standing at the door waiting for her. She was sorry and very very happy too. She hugged her mom and dad and promised not to go far away from home.
